Each step has to be mathematically correct and move them closer to the goal.
If they don’t understand how the algebra relates to the graph visually, students resort to guessing.
Students struggle with the idea of one function inside another. The notation feels confusing at first, and without a clear sense of inputs and outputs, these questions can feel like mental gymnastics.
Precalculus 12 success often starts before the course begins.
I’ve worked with dozens of students across Burnaby and beyond. The ones who succeed usually began building their foundation during precalculus 11 or earlier.
Trying to build good study habits and patching math gaps while learning precalculus 12 is like trying to train for a marathon while running it.

When students are struggling in precalculus 12, the first step is to get clear on two things: where they are right now, and where they want to go. Some students only realize they were underprepared once the course is already moving quickly. At that point, they need to decide whether they are ready to commit to improving.
The students who do well aren’t always the strongest at math. They are the ones who are willing to take feedback, try their best, and follow through. If they do that, I can help them figure out exactly what to focus on. If something isn’t working, I will break it down further until it makes sense. But I can’t help a student who won’t listen or won’t try.
