Group tutoring allows students to learn with peers, making the experience more interactive and less intimidating. Students appreciate the collaborative problem-solving, diverse perspectives, and peer support, which help deepen their understanding and keep them engaged. The social interaction and friendly competition boost their motivation and confidence. Overall, group tutoring fosters a sense of community and belonging, which enhances the overall learning experience. Group tutoring is a great way to share the cost with other students who are learning the same material. It offers a more affordable option without compromising on quality instruction.
However, for some students, individual tutoring may be a better fit. Individual tutoring benefits students who need personalized attention, learn at a different pace, have specific learning challenges, prefer a private environment, need targeted focus, or require flexible scheduling.
We use Google Meet for our sessions and Explain Everything as our interactive whiteboard. This tool is accessible via a browser or through an app available on iOS and Android. Ideally, students should use a tablet with the app installed so they can write directly on the whiteboard. Alternatively, they can download the app on their phone, complete their work on paper, and upload photos within the app. Familiarity with these tools before starting sessions will ensure a smooth and productive experience.
In our small group sessions of 2-4 students, preparation is key to maximizing our time together. Each student must come to the session with a clear goal in mind, and they should upload any necessary materials to their personal page on the Explain Everything board before the lesson. If additional materials are needed, students should email me ahead of the session so I can prepare accordingly.
By planning ahead, students have already taken the first step toward their goals, allowing us to focus our hour on meaningful progress. I will look over the material on the Explain Everything board before the lesson to structure the lesson effectively and ensure that every student moves closer to achieving their objective during the session.
I am a BC-certified teacher with 5 years of classroom teaching experience in math and science. During my time as a math teacher at a small private all-girls’ school, I taught small groups of students who were in the same grade but had mixed abilities. In one instance, I worked with a group that included a mix of grades because there was only one student in Grade 10. This unique setup allowed that Grade 10 student to develop strong independent learning skills, which proved invaluable. I still remember the moment she walked out of my classroom beaming with happiness after I told her she had earned an A on her final chapter test.
The collaborative environment fostered in these groups was highly beneficial—the students not only enjoyed the shared learning experience but also actively supported one another, helping them to better understand challenging concepts and boost their confidence in math.
My group tutoring sessions are an affordable option for high-quality instruction, with detailed pricing available on my pricing page. Groups commit to the same schedule on a month-by-month basis until the course ends. If a group member decides not to continue for the next month, a 15-day written notice is required. If the number of students change during the month, the price is adjusted for each student accordingly.
If another student joins your group, both students and parents will be notified, and any extra payment can count as a credit towards the next month.
